Learn how software works in the age of AI
AI can generate code in seconds. But writing code was never the hardest part of software engineering—understanding it is.
When you let AI write everything without knowing how it works, you quickly hit a wall. Projects grow, context runs out, bugs compound, and you’re stranded trying to debug software you don’t understand. To build real things—whether you’re pursuing a career in engineering or bringing your own ideas to life—you need mental models, not just prompts.
Coda teaches you how computers think, how data moves, and how modern software is built, one short lesson at a time.
How it works
- First principles first. Before memorizing syntax, you’ll learn the core concepts that power every application: data flow, memory vs. storage, networks, and the CRUD patterns behind every app you use.
- Bite-sized, story-driven lessons. Designed for your phone and your schedule. Each lesson is a focused walkthrough you can complete in a single sitting.
- Interactive practice. Reinforce what you learn with quick conceptual checks, interactive code challenges, and mini projects you edit directly in the app.
- Calm and private by design. No accounts to create, no ads, and no streak mechanics. Your progress stays on your device and syncs privately with iCloud.
Why I built Coda
A few years ago, when I first started using AI to code, it felt like an overnight superpower. Ideas I’d shelved for years suddenly became possible in an afternoon.
But over time, I noticed something worrying: as it became easier to outsource our typing to AI, it became just as easy to outsource our thinking. People are led to believe that anyone can build software now without learning how it works. That might be true for toy apps and quick demos—until the complexity outpaces what an AI agent can reliably manage.
AI hasn’t replaced software engineers; it has changed what matters most. The future belongs to people who know how to set the vision, guide the agent, and make judgment calls when things go wrong. I built Coda to help anyone build that foundation from the ground up.
Availability
Coda is coming soon to the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
